Descripción
Soto de Luiña is a locality in the municipality of Cudillero, in Asturias, situated in the Luiña river valley inland from the coast. The village is notable for the Iglesia de San Martín de Luiña, a pre-Romanesque church with documented origins in the ninth or tenth century and surviving architectural fabric of considerable antiquity, making it one of the earliest Christian buildings in the western Asturian coast corridor.
The valley setting is enclosed and green, with the typical Asturian combination of pasture, mixed woodland, and traditional stone farmhouses. The church’s pre-Romanesque origins give the locality an unusual historical depth for what is otherwise a modest agricultural community.
For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Soto de Luiña is a meaningful architectural stop offering a pre-Romanesque building of quality in a quietly beautiful valley environment.
