Descripción
Riego de Ambrós is a small hamlet in the province of León, Castilla y León, situated on the steep Bierzo descent on the Camino Frances between El Acebo and Molinaseca. The settlement occupies a sheltered position in the deep chestnut and oak woodland of the western Montes de León slope.
The village has a compact medieval character with stone houses on the slope, the surrounding dense chestnut forest creating an enclosed, forested atmosphere quite different from the open sierra above. The stream running through the village and the chestnut canopy give it a damp, wooded quality that marks the transition from the exposed sierra to the sheltered Bierzo below.
For pilgrims, Riego de Ambrós is one of the more atmospherically enclosed sections of the Bierzo descent, the dense woodland pressing close to the path before it opens into the wider valley around Molinaseca.
