Descripción
Rabé de las Calzadas is a small municipality in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances on the Meseta plain west of Tardajos. The name means ditch or channel of the causeways, referring to the convergence of Roman and medieval road causeways at this point, making it an ancient route junction.
The village has a compact stone character with the church of Santa Marina and a traditional Castilian square. The surrounding landscape is the open Meseta: flat cereal fields, wide sky, and the first gentle rise of the Hornillos terrain beginning to appear ahead. The Roman road heritage gives the locality a layered historical identity as an ancient waypoint.
For pilgrims, Rabé de las Calzadas is a short distance from Tardajos on the early Meseta stages, offering basic services and the experience of the wide open plain before the longer emptier sections ahead.
