Description

Edit

Pontedeume is a historic town and municipality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, situated at the mouth of the River Eume on the Camino Inglés. The town takes its name from the bridge over the Eume, a sixteenth-century stone structure that replaced the original medieval crossing and remains the main entry point for pilgrims.

The Torre de los Andrade, a fourteenth-century defensive tower built for the powerful Andrade noble family, dominates the hilltop above the town and is the defining architectural landmark. The town centre retains arcaded stone streets of considerable historic quality, with the church of Santiago and several noble houses.

For pilgrims on the Camino Inglés, Pontedeume is one of the most architecturally rewarding stops between Ferrol and Santiago, offering full services and a rich medieval townscape in a dramatic estuarine setting.
