Description
Ponte de Penas is a locality in the municipality of Melide, A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Frances immediately west of Melide. The name refers to a stone bridge over a small stream, penas indicating rocks or stone, at a crossing point on the path.
The surrounding terrain is the rolling green farmland and oak woodland west of Melide that characterises the A Coruña stages. The path here passes through a pleasant agricultural corridor on the gentle undulating terrain typical of this section.
For pilgrims, Ponte de Penas is a short distance from Melide, the river crossing providing a brief landmark on the opening stages of the long final day approaches to Santiago.
