Description
Os Muiños is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía routes. The name means the mills, referring to the traditional Galician water mills that would have operated on the local watercourses. Such mills were central to rural food processing, grinding grain for the surrounding community.
The locality sits in the terrain approaching the Costa da Morte coast, where the streams descending from the interior plateau provided water power for mill operation. Traditional Galician water mills are single-room stone structures with a horizontal water wheel and a simple grinding mechanism, built over the millrace channel.
