Descripción
Molinaseca is a municipality in the province of León, Castilla y León, situated at the foot of the Montes de León descent at the point where the Meruelo river joins the valley floor. The village has a compact historic character with a notable Romanesque bridge of medieval origin, a church of San Nicolás with Romanesque elements, and a main street of traditional stone houses adapted to pilgrim hospitality.
The riverside location gives the village a pleasant character in summer, with the Meruelo running below the bridge and the stone houses of the Calle Real reflected in the water. The transition from the long steep descent from the mountains to the flat valley floor at Molinaseca is one of the more welcome moments of this demanding stage.
For pilgrims, Molinaseca is a full-service village with accommodation and the visual reward of medieval stone lanes after the exposed mountain stages.
