Description
Lires is a small locality in the municipality of Cee, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, situated at the mouth of the Lires river on the Atlantic coast south of Muxía. The village occupies the estuarine terrain where the river meets the ocean, forming a wide sandy beach backed by dunes and the characteristic Atlantic heath of the Costa da Morte.
The beach at Lires is one of the longer sandy stretches on this otherwise rocky and clifftop coastline, and the river mouth creates a flat estuarine environment distinct from the exposed headlands to the north and south. The Camino path between Muxía and Fisterra passes through or near Lires on the final stages of the coastal walk.
