Description
Lago is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía routes. The name simply means lake or pool, indicating that the settlement developed beside a notable standing water body in the Galician interior. Small lakes and ponds on the plateau are characteristic features of the poorly drained granitic terrain in this part of Galicia.
The locality sits in the open agricultural and forested plateau landscape of the central Fisterra route. The lake or pool that gave the settlement its name may be small, but in the relatively dry plateau terrain it would have been a significant local water source and landmark.
