La Mesa

La Mesa is a locality in the municipality of Grandas de Salime, in Asturias, on the Camino Primitivo route approaching the Grandas de Salime crossing. The name means the table, describing the flat or tabletop terrain on which the settlement is situated, a contrast with the dramatic gorge of the Navia river below.

The setting is the edge of the plateau above the Navia river, with the flat mesa terrain dropping away sharply to the river corridor below. The views from La Mesa across the gorge and toward the Galician border hills are among the more dramatic of the final Asturian stages of the Primitivo.
