La Colorada

La Colorada is a small locality in the municipality of Navia, in Asturias, situated in the terrain between the Navia estuary and the Cartavio area. The name, meaning the coloured or the reddish, likely refers to the iron-rich reddish soil or autumn vegetation characteristic of the local hillside terrain.

The surrounding landscape has the enclosed green quality of the western Asturian interior, with pasture, mixed woodland, and stone farmhouses on the valley slopes. For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, La Colorada is a passage point in the rural corridor of the Navia municipality.
