Description

Edit

Grado is a town and municipality in Asturias, situated at the confluence of the Cubia and Nalón rivers. The town is the principal service stop on the Camino Primitivo between Oviedo and the western mountain crossings, offering full pilgrim infrastructure in a traditional Asturian market town setting.

The collegiate church of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, an eighteenth-century Baroque structure, dominates the historic centre with its bell tower. Grado holds a weekly market of regional importance and has a commercial character typical of Asturian river valley towns.

The Nalón river crossing at Grado and the subsequent ascent toward Salas represent a significant landscape transition on the Camino Primitivo, from the central valley basin to the higher terrain of the Asturian interior.
