Description

Edit

Estrada is a small locality in the Braga or Viana do Castelo district on the Atlantic coastal corridor north of Esposende. The name means road or highway, one of the most direct place name origins in Portugal, indicating a settlement that grew alongside a main road and took its identity from that road function.

The locality has a modest character without significant infrastructure, set in the coastal plain terrain between Esposende and the Viana do Castelo district. The Camino Português coastal variant passes through or near Estrada on the long stretch between the Cávado estuary and the Lima river.
