Carreço

Carreço is a civil parish in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, situated on the northern Atlantic coast between Areosa and Afife. The parish occupies clifftop and coastal valley terrain, where the combination of schist and granite geology creates the dark rocky outcrops and rugged shore platform characteristic of this stretch of the Minho coast.

A small fishing community historically operated from the cove below the cliffs, exploiting the rich Atlantic waters along this section of the coast. The coastal Camino Português follows the clifftop path through Carreço, with wide views over the Atlantic and the rugged rocky foreshore below.
