Descripción
Calzadilla de la Cueza is a municipality in the province of Palencia, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances at the end of the notoriously long and empty stage from Carrión de los Condes. The 17-kilometre stretch from Carrión to Calzadilla has no intermediate services, making it one of the more demanding sections for water and supplies.
The village is a compact stone farming community on the open Campos plain, with the Romanesque church of Santiago providing the main architectural landmark. The surrounding landscape is the characteristic Palencia flatland: wide sky, cereal fields, and the sense of vast open space that defines this stage.
For pilgrims, Calzadilla is the welcome endpoint of the long solitary stretch from Carrión, a small but genuine service village on the exposed plain.
