Descripción
Burlada is a municipality in Navarra immediately adjoining Pamplona on the northeastern side, forming the final urban passage before the Camino Frances enters the historic walled city. The Portal de Francia, the medieval gateway through which pilgrims have historically entered Pamplona, lies on the boundary between Burlada and the historic centre.
The town itself is primarily a residential suburb with limited historic character, its significance on the Camino being purely transitional: it is the last municipality before Pamplona proper. The Portal de Francia remains a significant symbolic threshold, the point at which centuries of pilgrims have passed from the countryside into the city.
For pilgrims, the approach through Burlada and the passage through the Portal de Francia marks the arrival in one of the great cities of the Camino Frances.
