Azqueta

Azqueta is a small hamlet in the municipality of Villamayor de Monjardín, Navarra, situated on the lower slopes of the Monjardín ridge on the Camino Frances between Irache and Villamayor. The settlement has a compact stone character with a handful of traditional farmhouses on the hillside.

The elevated position gives Azqueta views over the Tierra Estella plain below. Above the hamlet the ridge of Monjardín rises, topped by the ruins of the castle of San Esteban.

For pilgrims, Azqueta is a passage point on the ascent toward Villamayor, the section before the long open plain walk to Los Arcos providing some of the better landscape variety of this stage.
