Areia

Areia is a small coastal locality in the municipality of Vila do Conde or the adjacent Póvoa de Varzim area, in the Porto district. The name means sand or sandy area, directly describing the beach and dune terrain that defines this stretch of the Atlantic coastline between Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim.

The coastal Camino Português passes through or near Areia on the beachfront path, where the sandy shoreline and the low dune ridge are the defining landscape features. The locality has a modest character without significant infrastructure, its identity inseparable from its coastal setting.
