Trouxemil

Trouxemil is a civil parish in the municipality of Coimbra, in the Coimbra district, situated in the flat to gently rolling terrain north of the city on the approach to the Aveiro district boundary. The village has a traditional character with a parish church and a compact residential core, set in an agricultural landscape of cereal fields, market gardens, and the poplar-lined watercourses typical of this part of the Mondego basin.

The locality is effectively within the wider Coimbra metropolitan area, though it retains a distinct village identity separate from the city’s urban fabric. The flat terrain and the wide horizons of the plain give the surrounding landscape an open quality.

For pilgrims on the Camino Português, Trouxemil is a waypoint in the flat northern exit from the Coimbra area, on the agricultural corridor that precedes the more varied terrain of the Aveiro district.
