Description

Edit

Trasmonte is a small locality in the municipality of Ames, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. Its name means beyond the mountain or across the hill, indicating a settlement on the far side of a ridge from a point of reference. This type of toponym is common across Iberia wherever a settlement is perceived as lying over a hill from the main road or town.

The locality sits on the western descent from the Santiago ridges toward the Tambre river valley, in the section of the Fisterra route that passes through mixed Galician woodland and agricultural hamlets. The transition from the ridge plateau to the Tambre valley gives the terrain a dynamic quality.
