San Miguel del Camino

San Miguel del Camino is a small hamlet in the municipality of Valverde de la Virgen, León, on the Camino Frances at the base of the Páramo plateau on the southern route. The settlement marks the transition from the enclosed valley terrain to the open upland plateau of the León Páramo.

The Páramo Leonés is a high flat plain at around 900 metres, covered in cereal fields and scrub, with wide skies and minimal topographic variation. The ascent from San Miguel onto the plateau is one of the characteristic landscape shifts of the León stages.

For pilgrims on this route variant, San Miguel del Camino is the last valley settlement before the exposed Páramo crossing toward Villadangos.
