Descripción
Ponte Valga is a locality in the municipality of Valga, in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia. It sits where the Ulla river is crossed on the Camino Português, a significant hydrological barrier that pilgrims must bridge before approaching Padrón. The Ulla here is a broad, tidal-influenced river moving through a wide alluvial plain.
The settlement is modest, with its identity defined largely by its function as a river crossing point. The landscape along the Ulla at this section is characterised by low-lying riverine meadows, reed beds, and the wide open sky typical of large estuarine corridors.
For pilgrims, Ponte Valga marks the penultimate river crossing before Padrón, and the broad floodplain setting gives the stage a distinctive open, luminous quality.
