Description
Orelhudo is a small locality in the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, in the Coimbra district, situated on the hillside terrain descending toward the Mondego plain and the city of Coimbra. The name is an unusual toponym that may derive from a personal nickname or an archaic local term.
The settlement occupies forested and agricultural hillside terrain, where the enclosed landscape of the Leiria and upper Coimbra interior begins to give way to the wider views of the Mondego basin. Stone farmhouses and small cultivated plots characterise the local fabric.
For pilgrims on the Camino Português, Orelhudo is a passage point on the final hillside descent before the route enters the Coimbra metropolitan area, where the Mondego plain and the city’s profile begin to become visible.
