Description
Nigrán is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, situated on the southern shore of the Vigo ría between Baiona and the city of Vigo. The municipality has a mixed coastal and rural character, with traditional Galician granite villages on the inland slopes and the ría shoreline on its western edge.
Vineyard cultivation is prominent in the municipality, part of the broader Rías Baixas Albariño wine region whose granite soils and Atlantic microclimate produce Galicia’s most celebrated white wine. The hillsides carry the characteristic high-trained vine pergola system on granite posts.
The coastal Camino Português passes through Nigrán on the approach to Vigo, traversing the southern ría terrain before the urban entry to the city.
