Descripción
Hospital de Orbigo is a municipality in the province of León, on the west bank of the Orbigo river at the famous medieval bridge on the Camino Frances. The town takes its name from the pilgrim hospital established here by the Order of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, one of the military hospitaller orders that maintained pilgrim hospices on the Camino routes.
The town shares the famous Puente de Orbigo with the adjacent Puente Orbigo locality on the east bank, and together they form one of the most memorable crossing points of the entire Camino Frances. The Paso Honroso jousting tournament of 1434 is associated with this bridge.
The town continues the hospitaller tradition, with modern pilgrim infrastructure operating in the medieval spirit of the site.
