Description

Edit

El Salto is a locality near the Presa de Salime in the municipality of Grandas de Salime, in Asturias. The name means the jump or the waterfall, referring to the dramatic water release from the dam or to a natural waterfall in the Navia gorge below the dam complex.

The locality is associated with the hydroelectric infrastructure of the Salime complex, and the cascade or jump of released water from the dam gives it its identity. The surrounding terrain is the steep gorge of the Navia river, with the dramatic drop from the reservoir level to the natural river level creating a significant waterfall feature.

For pilgrims on the Camino Primitivo, El Salto falls on the approach to or departure from the Grandas de Salime area, in the gorge terrain surrounding the dam crossing.
