Description

Edit

El Pedregal is a small locality in western Asturias on the Camino Primitivo route between Salas and Pola de Allande. The name means the stony place or the rocky ground, describing a hillside covered in loose stones or exposed rocky outcrops characteristic of the higher mountain approaches in this part of Asturias.

The pedregal terrain is common on the higher stages of the Camino Primitivo, where the limestone and schist geology produces loose stone surfaces that make the path more challenging underfoot. The surrounding landscape is the open upland terrain of the western Asturian mountains.
