Description

Edit

Colunga is a town and municipality in Asturias, situated on the coastal terrain between Ribadesella and Villaviciosa. The town is home to the Museo del Jurásico de Asturias, a natural history museum dedicated to the rich dinosaur heritage of the Asturian coast, whose limestone tidal platforms preserve Jurassic dinosaur trackways along the shoreline.

The town has a traditional Asturian character with the parish church of Santa María and a compact historic centre. The surrounding municipal territory is one of the most important for natural cider production in Asturias, with apple orchards on the valley slopes supplying the local sidrerías.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Colunga provides a full-service rest stop with the added interest of the dinosaur museum and the prehistoric coastal trackway trail accessible from the town.
