Description

Edit

Castroverde is a municipality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, situated in the valley terrain of the central Lugo interior. The name means green castle or green fortress, combining castro, the Celtic hilltop fortification type, with verde, meaning green, a fitting description for the intensely green Lugo valley landscape.

The town retains a medieval tower, the Torre da Homenaxe, which is the surviving element of a former castle complex on the hilltop above the town. The tower gives the historic centre a visual anchor and is one of the more recognisable landmarks on the Primitivo interior stage.

For pilgrims, Castroverde provides services and the architectural interest of the medieval tower on the long stage between A Fonsagrada and Lugo.
