Descripción
Castildelgado is a small municipality in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances between Redecilla del Camino and Belorado. The village occupies the flat cereal plain typical of this stretch of the route, with traditional stone farmhouses and a church with a notable seventeenth-century interior.
The church of San Pedro retains an unusual interior with decorative wooden elements that give it a distinctive character compared to the more austere stone Romanesque and Gothic churches encountered elsewhere on the route. The surrounding terrain is the open Meseta approach: wide skies, cereal fields, and the distant profile of the Oca mountain range to the south.
For pilgrims, Castildelgado is a passage point on the Belorado approach with limited services, notable primarily for the wooden church interior and the landscape context.
