Description

Edit

Capilla de San Pedro Mártir, meaning Chapel of Saint Peter Martyr, is a small wayside chapel on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía routes in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. Saint Peter of Verona, known as Peter Martyr, was a thirteenth-century Dominican friar and inquisitor who was killed in 1252 and subsequently canonised. His cult was promoted particularly by the Dominican order.

The presence of a chapel dedicated to this saint along the Fisterra route suggests a connection to the Dominican pilgrimage infrastructure or to a local patron of Dominican affiliation. Wayside chapels of this kind served as stopping points for prayer and rest, and their dedications often record the religious orders or confraternities that maintained the pilgrimage infrastructure of a particular route.
