Description
Cacabelos is a municipality in the province of León, Castilla y León, situated on the Cúa river in the Bierzo valley on the Camino Frances. The town has a compact historic centre with the church of Santa María, the Sanctuary of La Quinta Angustia, and the Museo del Vino del Bierzo, reflecting the town’s role as the cultural capital of Bierzo wine culture.
Significant Roman remains, including the site of the Roman settlement of Bergidum Flavium, have been excavated in and around the town, providing evidence of the long human occupation of this strategic valley crossing.
