Description
Cabeza de Lobo is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Inglés route. The name means wolf’s head, a toponym that records the historic presence of wolves in the Galician interior hills, where the Iberian wolf was once common throughout the forested highland terrain.
The Iberian wolf remains present in parts of Galicia today, though in much reduced numbers. The wolf was a significant figure in Galician rural life, representing both threat to livestock and a deep presence in the mythology and oral culture of the region. Place names preserving wolf references are scattered across the Galician and Asturian highlands.
