Description

Edit

Borres is a locality in the municipality of Allande, in Asturias, situated on the elevated mountain terrain of the Camino Primitivo between Tineo and Pola de Allande. The village is notable for the church of San Pedro de Borres, a structure with pre-Romanesque origins, whose remote position on the mountain ridge gives it an exceptional atmosphere.

The church retains early medieval architectural fabric, and its isolated position on the high sierra contrasts with the more celebrated pre-Romanesque buildings of the Oviedo area. The surrounding landscape is the open upland terrain of the western Asturian mountains, with wide views across the sierra on clear days.

For pilgrims on the Camino Primitivo, Borres is one of the most memorable mountain waypoints, combining ancient ecclesiastical heritage with a dramatically remote setting.
