Description
Apúlia is a civil parish in the municipality of Esposende, in the Braga district, situated on the Atlantic coast between Aguçadoura and Fão. The village is known for its continuation of the seaweed fertilisation tradition, where beach seaweed is used to enrich the thin sandy soils of the coastal plots behind the dunes, producing the distinctive green strips of kale and maize visible from the road.
The coastal landscape at Apúlia is characteristic of this stretch of the Atlantic coast: long sandy beach, low dune ridge, and the narrow coastal agricultural plots that have been cultivated in this way for generations. The village retains a traditional fishing and farming character.
