Descripción
Anadia is a town and municipality in the Aveiro district, situated at the northern edge of the Bairrada wine region in central Portugal. It serves as an administrative and commercial hub for a cluster of surrounding parishes spread across the flat to gently undulating terrain between Coimbra and Aveiro.
The town is closely associated with espumante, the Portuguese sparkling wine produced from Baga grapes cultivated on the region’s distinctive limestone and clay soils. Several wine estates and cellars operate in and around the municipality, contributing to a regional identity rooted in viticulture that stretches back several centuries.
Anadia also has a tradition of thermal tourism, with spa facilities drawing visitors to the area. The town center retains some early twentieth-century civic architecture, including the town hall and market buildings. The Camino Português passes through or near Anadia, connecting it to the wider pilgrimage route northward through the Aveiro district.
