Alto do Poio

Alto do Poio is a mountain pass in the municipality of Pedrafita do Cebreiro, Lugo, Galicia, at 1,337 metres, forming the second significant high point of the Camino Frances after O Cebreiro on the Galician mountain ridge. A refuge and pilgrim monument mark the pass.

The panoramic views from Alto do Poio on clear days extend over the multiple green ridges of the Galician mountain interior, with valley after valley of forested slopes stretching toward the Atlantic horizon. The ridge here is open moorland with heather and gorse, the sky vast and the wind strong.

For pilgrims, the Alto do Poio is the second major high point of the Galician mountain section, and the views from the pass toward the descent into the Sarria corridor provide a reminder of the scale of the remaining journey.
