Description

Edit

A Brea is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Frances on the penultimate stage between Arzúa and O Pedrouzo. The name means pitch or tar, a toponym possibly recording the use of pine pitch or resin in the area for waterproofing or as a trade material.

The hamlet has a compact stone character in the enclosed woodland terrain of the final stages. The surrounding landscape combines oak and pine woodland with the green pasture typical of the A Coruña interior.

For pilgrims, A Brea is a quiet passage point on the penultimate stage, the pine toponym connecting to the pine woodland that appears increasingly frequently on this section of the route.
