Description
Zas is a small locality on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía routes in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, situated in the agricultural interior west of Negreira. The name is a common Galician toponym of uncertain origin. The village lies in the rolling cultivated terrain that characterises the central section of the Fisterra route, where the dense woodland of the Santiago ridges gives way to more open farmland.
The landscape around Zas is typical of the Galician interior: maize fields, vine pergolas, granite stone farmhouses, and the occasional hórreo granary raised on staddle legs at the edge of cultivated plots. The open terrain allows wider views than the wooded sections closer to Santiago.
