Description
Villar de Mazarife is a municipality in the province of León, on the southern route variant of the Camino Frances across the Páramo Leonés plateau. The village has a compact traditional character with stone and adobe farmhouses and the sixteenth-century church of Santiago Apóstol.
The surrounding Páramo landscape is flat and open, with cereal fields and the wide sky typical of this elevated plateau. The church tower of Santiago is a landmark visible from the approach path across the open terrain.
The village provides full services for pilgrims on the southern route, including accommodation and cafés, making it a popular alternative stopping point for those who prefer the quieter Páramo route to the busier main Frances corridor through Villadangos.
