Villafría

Villafría is a district and former municipality now part of the city of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances in the northeastern suburbs. The name means cold village, likely referring to the historically exposed and cold microclimate of this position on the plain before the city.

The area is primarily residential with the urban development typical of the Burgos periphery. The Arlanzón river and its tree-lined path continue to provide a natural corridor through the suburban fabric on this final approach section.

For pilgrims, Villafría is the last suburban passage before the urban core of Burgos, the city making its presence felt through the density of buildings and the increasing noise of the capital.
