Ventosa (La Rioja)

Ventosa is a small municipality in La Rioja, situated on the elevated San Antón ridge between Navarrete and Nájera on the Camino Frances. The name translates as windy place, describing the exposed position on the ridge.

The village has a compact stone character with the parish church of San Saturnino. The surrounding landscape is the open Rioja wine country, with the ridge position giving wide views over the valley below and the vineyard slopes. On clear days the Sierra Demanda mountains are visible to the south.

For pilgrims, the San Antón ridge between Navarrete and Nájera is one of the more scenic sections of the La Rioja stages, the exposed terrain providing atmospheric walking through vine and scrub oak before the descent into Nájera.
