Description

Edit

Ventosa is a small locality in the municipality of Ames or the adjacent area west of Santiago de Compostela, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. Like Alto do Vento nearby, the name derives from the Latin ventosus, meaning windy, indicating an exposed position subject to strong Atlantic winds on the ridge terrain west of the city.

The settlement occupies the open forested and agricultural ridge terrain of the early Fisterra and Muxía stages, where the route begins its long westward traverse toward the Atlantic coast. The exposed hilltop character and the mixed forest and scrub landscape define the locality.
