Trabadelo

Trabadelo is a municipality in the province of León, Castilla y León, situated in the Valcarce gorge on the Camino Frances between Pereje and La Portela de Valcarce. The village occupies the valley floor below steep wooded cliffs that define the upper gorge section.

The traditional stone houses of Trabadelo have a substantial quality appropriate to the enclosed mountain terrain. The valley here has a sheltered, humid character, with chestnut and oak covering the slopes and the Valcarce river running close to the path. A Baroque church of San Nicolás provides the main architectural landmark.

For pilgrims, Trabadelo is a basic service village on the Valcarce gorge stage, the forested valley character distinctive before the more exposed terrain of the upper valley and the Galician border approaches.
