Description

Edit

Serém de Cima is a small parish in the municipality of Águeda, in the Aveiro district. It forms a pair with the lower settlement of Serém, with ‘de Cima’ indicating its position on higher ground. The village sits in the transition zone between the river lowlands around Águeda and the more forested, undulating terrain that characterizes the interior of the district further north.

The landscape around Serém de Cima is typical of this interior zone: eucalyptus and pine plantations on the slopes, small cultivated plots on flatter ground, and stone farmhouses with traditional tiled roofs clustered around a parish church. The elevated position gives views over the surrounding wooded countryside.

The Camino Português passes through or near the Serém parishes on the long stretch between Águeda and Albergaria-a-Velha, a segment of the route defined by its forested, hilly character.
