Descripción
San Nicolás del Real Camino is a small municipality in the province of Palencia, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances as the last village in the province before the León border. The name refers to a royal pilgrim hospice dedicated to Saint Nicholas that historically provided shelter at the provincial boundary.
The village has a compact stone character with limited services. The surrounding landscape is the flat Campos approaching the León border, with the road crossing from Palencia into León shortly after leaving the village.
For pilgrims, San Nicolás del Real Camino marks the symbolic end of the Palencia stages and the entry into the province of León, the penultimate Castilian province before Galicia.
