Description
San Martiño do Real is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the San Xil southern route variant of the Camino Frances between Triacastela and Sarria. The dedication to Saint Martin, San Martiño in Galician, with the do Real designation suggesting a royal or elevated status, gives the hamlet its ecclesiastical identity.
The settlement has a quiet farmstead character in the enclosed green mountain landscape of the Lugo interior. Traditional stone farmhouses and the lush pasture and woodland of the Atlantic Galician slopes define the surrounding terrain.
For pilgrims on the southern route, San Martiño do Real is a passage point in the quieter mountain corridor before Sarria.
