Description
Ribeira de Alcalamouque is a small locality in the municipality of Ansião, in the Leiria district, set in the valley of the Alcalamouque stream, a minor watercourse that drains the forested hills of the Leiria-Coimbra transition zone. The name combines ribeira, meaning stream or small river, with Alcalamouque, a toponym of probable Arabic origin preserving the linguistic legacy of the medieval Moorish presence in central Portugal.
The locality sits in a valley corridor enclosed by forested hillsides, where the stream and its riparian vegetation create a linear green corridor through the pine and eucalyptus woodland. The settlement is small and without significant infrastructure.
On the Camino Português, Ribeira de Alcalamouque is a passage point in the final forested section before the route crosses into the Coimbra district and approaches Rabaçal.
