Description

Edit

Puertas de Vidiago is a small locality in the municipality of Llanes, in Asturias, situated on the coastal terrain between Pendueles and Llanes. The area is associated with the Dolmen de Vidiago, a megalithic burial chamber dating to the Neolithic period, one of the better-preserved dolmens on the Asturian coast and a site of archaeological significance.

The surrounding landscape is the typical eastern Asturian coast interior: green enclosed valleys, mixed woodland, and the Atlantic cliff terrain visible to the north. The megalithic monuments of this area are part of a broader pattern of prehistoric occupation along the Asturian coast, where the combination of coastal resources and fertile valley land supported significant Neolithic communities.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, the Vidiago area marks the final approach to Llanes, with the megalithic heritage adding an unexpected prehistoric dimension to the Camino’s historical depth.
