Descripción
Pradela is a small hamlet in the province of León, on the higher alternative route of the Camino Frances that climbs above the Valcarce valley gorge between Villafranca del Bierzo and the Galician border. The settlement occupies a hillside position in chestnut and oak woodland above the valley floor.
The high route via Pradela is more demanding than the valley floor alternative but offers wider views over the Valcarce gorge and the forested slopes of the Bierzo-Galicia border zone. The woodland here has the humid Atlantic character typical of the slopes facing Galicia, with dense chestnut and oak.
For pilgrims choosing the high route, Pradela provides an atmospheric forested encounter before the Galician border crossing at O Cebreiro.
